fireworks and fires

Last night andy and I moved the small tv into our bedroom, got in bed fairly early, and watched a movie. Then, around midnight, we heard a really loud vehicle going up our street, and saw some flashing lights. Then we heard loud voices being broadcast from some sort of speaker. We tried to make out what the speaker was saying, but couldn't. We looked outside but didn't see anything, so we went to sleep.
This morning I was walking the dog, and around the corner from our house, I see these people digging through a pile of crap. As I got closer, I realized that it was charred crap, and that their house had caught fire. Terrible. I talked to them. Fortunately, it didn't spread into the bulk of their house - it was concentrated in the garage. Their car (or a car) was on the street in front of their house and it too was totally charred. Anyway, they said it was caused by fireworks. Noone was hurt. So, the lesson is, don't set off fireworks in your garage. Scary!
